YALI Fellowship
Victor Ambuyo has worked in the software design and development space for close to 5 years now with a keen interest for design thinking and
using its methodologies to come up with sustainable long-term solutions.
He currently is a co-founder at Vikaboni Limited, an Agri-tech-based company in Kenya which provides a platform which connects farmers in
remote areas to urban dwellers directly while eliminating the challenges experienced when selling through middlemen hence ensuring they get the
value of their money and buyers get fresh produce conveniently at accessible prices.
At Vikaboni, he leads the tech team in building solutions that enable the users to have an easy time interacting with the Vikaboni platform.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering from The Multimedia University of Kenya and is also an alumnus of the Mbugua Rosemary
Foundation. Victor aims to use the skills and knowledge he acquires at YALI to intuitively upskill his interactions and provide a strategic direction
to both Vikaboni’s end users and his fellow colleagues.
This is my intro about myself coming out of the YALI Fellowship that just ended. The feeling is a mixture of exhilaration and anxiety. The former due
to the anticipation I have in applying my recently learned skills. Anxiety because this is the fuel that runs my days and wondering on the applicability
of what I have learnt in my work environment.
I have been in the Business and Entrepreneurship ( cohort 41 )track getting to learn all the fundamentals of running a business through the concept of
servant leadership.
Accordingly, these are the themes that have become prevalent with the Servant Leadership concept :
Listening
Empathy
Healing
Self-awareness
Persuasion
Foresight
Stewardship
I have also been introduced to 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey which include the following :
Habit 1 : Be Proactive
Focus and act on what they can control and influence, instead of what you can’t.
Habit 2 : Begin With the End in Mind
Define clear measures of success and a plan to achieve them.
Habit 3 : Put First Things First
Prioritize and achieve their most important goals, instead of constantly reacting to urgencies.
Habit 4 : Think Win Win
Collaborate more effectively by building high-trust relationships.
Habit 5 : Seek to Understand Then to Be Understood
Influence others by developing a deep understanding of their needs and perspectives.
Habit 6 : Synergize
Develop innovative solutions that leverage diversity and satisfy all key stakeholders.
Habit 7 : Sharpen the Saw
Increase motivation, energy, and work/life balance by making time for renewing activities.
I hope to implement all that I have learnt in my entrepreneurial journey progressively and have a more positive impact to the people I work with, directly and indirectly.
